Mike Anderson is President and Agency Director of Anderson Counseling Services (ACS). ACS is a Licensed community mental health agency headquartered in Lynchburg, Virginia with offices in Danville and South Boston. Mike is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Approved Clinical Supervisor. While meeting many requirements to receive a PhD in professional counseling, Mike found that the growth of the agency became a larger priority requiring hours of time and dedication. He decided to discontinue the pursuit of the PhD to focus his time and energy meeting the increasing demands of a growing clinical practice. His theoretical focus is oriented in existential and object relations theory. Within his theoretical framework, Mike focuses on individual strengths and purpose as a means to help people find internal motivation to succeed in therapy. Mike credits his noteworthy achievements to his faith and a sense of calling to the helping profession.
It was the tragedy of witnessing a traumatic event within his own family that led Mike on a journey to make a difference for people struggling with depression, and anxiety. During his personal and professional journey in the mental health field over 26 years, Mike has made a commitment to devote his life to learning and helping individuals in need of service and supervising therapists to provide caring service to clients and families. Mike has served as a volunteer for children and families in various capacities. In addition to over 26 years of as a mental health professional, Mike has received several community service awards for his exemplary work with children and families within Central Virginia. In 2016, Mike received the honor of being the keynote speaker for the Optimist club in Virginia. Community service awards have been presented by Lynchburg police department, Lynchburg parks and recreation department and Jubilee Center.
Mike has served on the institutional review board for cultural research by doctoral candidates at Liberty University, is on the board of trustees at Virginia University of Lynchburg. Mike also serves on the community policing advisory committee for the Lynchburg City police department. Michael has compiled over 26 years of clinical and administrative experience to direct one of the most successful and caring private mental health organizations in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
